The Gamelan is a unique traditional Indonesian musical orchestra that typically features a variety of instruments, such as metallophones, xylophones, drums, and gongs. It predates the Hindu-Buddhist culture in the earliest history of Indonesia and is an integral part of Indonesian identity. The Gamelan has also been inscribed by UNESCO as one of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on 15 December 2021.

On that joyous occasion, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and the Greek National Opera have been working closely together to present the first Gamelan Orchestra performance in Athens on Sunday, 17th of April 2022, at 20.00 EET at Parnassos Literary Society Mansion, Pl. Agiou Georgiou Karitsi 8, Athens, 10561.

The said event would be conducted by the composer, Andys Skordis, who had the opportunity to study Gamelan in Indonesia, and performed by talented musicians of the Greek National Opera. The event is expected to strengthen the people-to-people contacts and embrace the shared culture of our two nations.

The ticket for the performance will be available from 14 April 2022 through ticketservices.gr and will be free of charge.
